Living in Reedville, right on the Chesapeake Bay, Wes got back into salt water fishing. On several fishing trips he found himself frequently repairing broken reels. The constant headaches led to the founding of Release Reels when Wes finally said, "Why not make my own?" So begins the story of the SG.
The first reels started production in China in 2009. Moving the company back stateside came about after having issues with quality and stolen ideas. The SG, after a redesign, started production in 2011 in the US. The cost of outsourcing parts began to rise, so in 2012 the factory got its start after acquiring two used CNC machines.
